Theatre in Progress is the second stage of the Reston Community Players, an opportunity for actors, directors, and playwrights to build new skills, techniques, and material in an informal, supportive setting. One-act and full-length plays are presented either as staged readings or "off book." The technical trappings -- set, lights, costumes -- are minimal. Rather, the emphasis is on experimentation and growth. As an audience member, this is your opportunity to get off the beaten path and see something different. And it's free. Come join us! Productions have included Frank McGuinness's Someone Who'll Watch Over Me, an intensely personal drama concerning three hostages held in the Middle East, and Fool for Love, Sam Shepard's offbeat look at family, wanderlust, relationships, and cows. The Theatre in Progress production of Fool for Love was subsequently developed into an award-winning presentation at the Northern Virginia Theatre Alliance's Annual One-Act Play Festival. Our most recent production was The Trial of John Peter Zenger, by Robert Cassler. The story of one of America's first political prisoners, this play recounts the events leading to Zenger's incarceration and trial in the 1730's for "seditious libel" against the colonial government. A fascinating, historically-detailed look at a crisis point in pre-Revolutionary America. Send comments about this site to webmaster@restonplayers.org (no ticket orders, please).
