The Bruce Marson Memorial Scholarship Application 2024 

The Bruce Marson Memorial Scholarship is given annually by Reston Community Players to a Fairfax County high school student dedicated to pursuing technical theatre or design with a connection to theatre arts. In 2024, the award will be $3,000, payable to the recipient's institute of higher learning.

Eligibility

1. Be a High School senior.

2. Have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

3. Be a Fairfax County, Virginia resident.

4. Have been accepted to an accredited U.S. college, university, or technical/ design institute of higher education (funds are distributed directly to the school).

5. Intend to major in technical theatre or design with a theatrical emphasis. Examples - a student majoring in fashion design involved in theatre as a costume designer, a student majoring in architecture design involved in theatre as a set designer.

Documents Required

1. The Bruce Marson Memorial Scholarship application.

2. A copy of the acceptance letter from the institution you will be attending.

3. A list of productions you have worked on and training you have received (or résumé).

4. A list of other training or experience in the area(s) for which you are applying.

5. Proof of Fairfax County address (i.e., drivers license) or student status (i.e., student i.d.) at a school in Fairfax County, VA.

Note: we request one or the other. We do not need both.

Portfolio Requirements

Put together either a digital or "hard copy" portfolio including programs with your name listed in a designer role, and pictures, drawings, diagrams, models, etc., of sets, costumes, props, etc., you have designed. For sound and light designers, clips from productions, design notes, sketches, etc. should be incorporated into your portfolio. We will conduct in-person interviews and portfolio reviews by appointment May 11 & May 19. Candidates will receive coordinating information during interview scheduling regarding presenting digital portfolios.

Application Deadline: May 1, 2024

Portfolio reviews and Interviews - scheduled May 11 & 19 at the RCP Rehearsal Hall. All applicants proceeding to portfolio reviews and interviews will receive a link to sign up for a time slot by May 5. Time slots will be available 2-7pm on both dates, first come - first served.
